June in Sand Springs means the Jaguar Club of Tulsa’s European Motor Extravaganza is back. European and British classics made by Jaguar, MG, Triumph, Ferrari, BMW and others will be on display Saturday at the Charles Page Triangle. A tailgate party, silent auction, autocross and other activities are scheduled for the three-day event as well.
Approximately 30 automobiles have preregistered, which is the highest number they’ve seen since they began holding the car show here in 2007, said Chairman of EuMoEx Roger Hanes. Hanes said he expects to see at least 70 cars total registered for the show, but is hoping for 100.
The club continues to receive positive feedback from car show participants about holding the event in Sand Springs, he said.
“It’s a lovely experience every year. Small town charm, absolute charm. All of our out of town guests tell us it’s an absolutely charming place to have a car show. It gets people to Sand Springs from Tulsa that otherwise may never visit.”
Hanes also said he’s grateful to Manager Shelby McClure at Kmart for allowing Sunday’s autocross event to be held in the Kmart parking lot, 1200 E. Charles Page Boulevard.
The Sand Springs Area Chamber of Commerce and its members have partnered with the club to sponsor EuMoEx.
“This is (the club’s) fourth annual event in Sand Springs, and they bring close to 100 European-style cars to our community along with their drivers and fans. The event not only gives us a cultural-learning experience, it brings good economic development to our city as well,” said J.C. Kinder, chamber president.
Chamber members have also donated items to a silent auction benefitting the Akdar Shrine Hospital Patient Transportation Fund.
This year’s event is co-sponsored by the Green Country MG Register and MG will be the featured automobile marquis.
Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Hampton Inn, 7852 W. Parkway Boulevard, with a tailgate party and car wash following at 6:30 p.m.
Participants can also register at the triangle Saturday between 8 and 10 a.m. The registration fee is $35 for the first car entered and $20 for each additional entry.
Cars will be displayed and participants’ choice judging will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday.
EuMoEx will also hold drawings throughout the day for hats, T-shirts, radios and other prizes.
An awards banquet will then be held at Chastain’s Casual Cafe & Catering Co., 122 N. Main St., beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets for the banquet are $25. The awards presentation and live auction are scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
EuMoEx will conclude with the autocross event from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. The three-lap course is sanctioned by Jaguar Clubs of North America, and participants will be timed with the option of having their performance posted to YouTube.
Drivers not participating in autocross have the option of taking self-guided tours of Coyote Trail, the Keystone Dam or Osage Hills.
